| Over two years since this place was last reviewed. A lovely detached brick building, with a date stone of 1903, and lots of flowers and hanging baskets adding colour. There is a large beer garden next to the canal, over the bridge from the Vintage Inn, The Tame Otter. Also a Sunday night music venue. A central door gives you an outdoor serving hatch, with etched glass doors allowing access to the bar to the left and lounge to the right. The lounge looks as if it has been refurbished recently; having plain walls, wood panel and modern pictures and a history of the pub. The bar is traditional. It has a well trod wood floor, green and white walls that have seen a few better days, cartoons and other memorabilia on the walls and a nice wood bar. The service was very friendly and the clientele more mature, the locals congrgated in the bar, which is where i went as the lounge seemed a little modern. Beer; Bombardier and Pedigree are still on, along with Ansells MILD and bitter on keg - i tried the bitter, which was fine. Best in the bar - to quote the respected tarinman ' proper pub feel', though many would rather go into the lounge. Whatever, its worth the trip. Archivist - 24 Aug 2009 14:41 |
| Great pub serving grat Bombadier and Pedigree. Double saloon-bar at the front and a tidy restaurant at the back which always seems popular. Two beer gardens allows children to gawp at the narrowboats and adults to concentrate on their pints. londinieres - 23 May 2007 15:30 |
| Great locals pub with outstanding Bombardier and Pedigree when I visited. Friendly and polite barstaff and a nice chatty buzz around the smallish public bar. Arrived on a friend's narrow-boat - this and the Tame Otter either side of bridge over canal - Red Lion was much preferred for beer and proper pub feel. trainman - 30 Sep 2006 13:18 |
| Canal side pub with garden, Good pub food with friendly personal service, always full of people eating so they must be doing somthing right. A bit crampt, but that's the price of poularity.
