user reviews of the Yard, Old Street

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Nice building and food was pretty good BUT, when we got the bill the waiter held onto the bill and presented the card payment machine at the bit where it says "press green to add a tip" to encourage you to leave one. I asked to see the bill (because i wanted to confirm the total) and the waiter hesitated before handing it over. I was furious to see that there was already a service charge added... i challenged him on this and he said "the waiters don't get the tip already on the bill" ... does this mean that the waiters are actively being encouraged to con customers into double-tipping - i consider this as near as dammit to be fraud as holding onto the bill was quite deliberate!! shocking practice - please look out for this if you do eat there.

The previous reviewer suns this place up. You wouldn't come here to drink.
The pizza is okay, I guess. I was a little disappointed, the cheese used was on the watery side and lacked a little flavour. We were grateful to sit downstairs as the upstairs was full to bursting with large table generating unbelievable amounts of noise, given that no one seemed individually to be that rowdy. Presumably the noise reverbs off the tiled walls.
I'd recommend Pizza Express over this joint. True it has the benefits of outside seating, should summer ever come back to these shores. But sitting right next to a busy road isn't terribly interesting, so it's not much of a benefit.

This is a pizza joint. It is not a pub.

This place does lovely food, the decor is quite trendy, waiting staff are pleasant.

The only fault would be the fact that there has been a problem with the food everytime we have been there. In that, we have either waited ages for it, or on one occasion, never got a dish we ordered at all!

Apart from that, its cool.

A basement bar in a very cool pizza restaurant near to Old Street Tube. Converted fire station, a very interesting building and a great vibe on Friday nights. Pizzas there are sold by the yard (hence the name I guess) and are well a try.
