The pub is okay and beer was drinkable. The place was plagued by flies but they are pretty much everywhere in Dent. I did sit in an area that seems to be for dog owners (water bowl on floor etc) which is worth avoiding as I think I picked up a few flea bites there.

Beer quality much improved. Still not much of a veggie selection on the menu though. What's with the new flooring??? Yuck!

Agree with the last comments about the owners not seeing the potential of the place as it's that rarest of rare things these days - a proper unspoilt pub. This place used to be a destination pub for many years and now it's as if the current licencees couldn't care less.

I called in recently for a couple of beers and some food and both were definitely below par. I have been coming to Dent for many years now and it's such a sad thing to see this happening. It'll probably be a house the next time I go up if they carry on like this and I wouldn't want to see that. Get someone in who knows what they're doing before it's too late.

I feel sorry for this place. It's as if the owners just don't the potential of their own pub. As the only pub in Dent with a beer garden you'd think they would make the most of it. No - expect a car park beer garden with weeds every where and napkins and straws trodden into the gravel. A bit of gardening and care and it would be great. As for the beer - they're almost there. On my recent visit the barman asked what kind of beer I liked and suggested Rhatas from Whitby - offering samples just in case. Beer tasted of vinegar but happily changed for another beer which tasted less like vinegar (still there!). As for the pub itself, it is very traditional with open fires. The food looked ok and was about 2-3 cheaper than across the road at the George and Dragon. In conclusion, a pub which looks fantastic but still needs work on. So close but so far, far away! 6/10

Both pubs in Dent are good, but for me the George and Dragon is marginally the better of the two. Lots of people will disagree, though as the Sun is more of a local, more old fashioned, characterful and lived in. One of the most eclectic ranges of beer I've come across, some of which (er, most) I've never heard of. Quality OK but the Dent beers in the G&D quite a lot better in my view. In particular, I found the beer in the Sun a little on the warm side for me (and this is November). We ate at lunchtime and whilst the food is straightforward pub-grub it was well cooked and tasty. Overall, a good local pub with friendly staff and good service - no complaints
