We were lucky enough to get to visit this pub before it closed down a couple of years ago.

Inside is very cosy with a nautical theme and red plush seating.

The night time view across the water to Mountbatten is stunning with all the boats moored up.

The pub only used to open three nights a week for four hours a night, maybe this didn't help, as the place is now gone for good.

I am proud to say that I have drunk in this pub.

Beautifully kept little pub with a charming old landlord and a decent pint of summerskills ale.
plush comfy seats and interesting naval decor.
a good place for a quiet beer or two but lacking any real pubby atmosphere.
It was a bit like sitting in the landlords front room affable though he is.
Definitely worth visiting when its open as its certainly a dying breed.

Staying down in Plymouth over the weekend - and in the the Barbican, was looking foward to visiting the Commercial. However, following previous comments about erratic opening times..pretty peeved off to find it closed Sat afternoon as well as returning around 7pm. No matter how friendly Landlord is supposed to be - get out of the business if you can't be bothered to ever open! Shouldn't be in the GBG for above reasons!

Thwarted again! I got here for 1800 but found that it wasn't open till 1900 on Fridays. I had to be somewhere else at 1900. Next time, eh!

I was thwarted in my attempt to visit this pub last night because it is also closed on Wednesday evenings, it would seem.
I look forward to a successful foray on my next trip to Plymouth as I have heard good things about the place.
