Popped in this lunchtime. Castle Road (or the Castle Quarter, if you will) is one of my favourite areas of Bedford so I was keen to visit the Gordon. It`s in the middle of a busy area full of independent shops , so there`s plenty to gaze out of the window and watch , should you wish to. Homely and welcoming, It`s an armchair and sofa kind of place, with a nice dining area and a large garden area. I would imagine it would have a nice atmosphere on a busy evening. I had a pint of Directors. One of the locals pointed out that his pint was off, and the lady behind asked if mine was too. To be fair, it was n`t quite up to the mark as it was the end of the barrel, so we had them replaced with a Youngs Bitter. I had a Panini and salad for £ 4.95 , which could have been a bit hotter in truth, but was tasty. Despite this, I would recommend, and re-visit.

Have been here a few times of late for events happening in the Ent Shed next door. Prices highish, but good choice of ales. Youngs Winter Warmer for the last thing we attended and the CW/Dogfish Head collaboration DNA IPA tonight. Very nice!

More modern inside than you would expect from the traditional pub exterior. Surprisingly busy on a damp Thursday night, with some hard-working staff ensuring that people got served quickly. Quite a mix of ages, and obviously aiming at a higher segment of the market than most Bedford pubs. Five handpumps, with three ales from the Wells & Youngs brewery plus a couple of guests - Tribute and a first-class Jennings Sneck Lifter (at 3.00).

High quality Charles Wells establishment run by the former landlord and landlady of The Ship. Decor is homogenised modern pub style but don't let that put you off. Good, very friendly atmosphere even on a sleepy Tuesday evening (not so sleepy actually, as there were quite a few people inside and out). Reasonably sized back patio and cafe style seating out front make this a pub befitting of the "posher" end of Bedford. Beer is kept very, very well and the food was of a very good standard and reasonably priced. The pub still features the Ents Shed which is a small music and comedy venue. A little way out of the main town centre and roadside parking can be tough to find but this pub is very well worth a visit.

This pub perfectly compliments the local vicinity. Terrific little pub in a fantastic area of town. Beers really good as well. It's a struggle to find bombadier on tap... period... let alone a pint of that sort of quality. I'll certainly be coming back!
