Getting the praise it deserves after a lot of hard work inside and outside. Well worth a visit and just a short detour from the Tourist route through Cobham

Visited a few times now. The new owners tell me they got the pub reopened about a year ago and the effort they have put in certainly shows. Well stocked with real ales St Austell Tribute and Adnams Broadside plus a guest ale always well kept. The pub is a freehouse so good choice and cheap for the area. Interior has a welcoming real fire as well as wood burner so cosy in the winter. The garden has been completely redone with play area and animals to appeal to families yet it has the ambience of a local country boozer. Excellent pub food well priced with a wide ranging menu and the usual Sunday roasts. Good to see a pub reopened and not as a gastro pub or part of a major chain of look-a-like soul-less establishments . This pub has character and I am sure characters. Well worth finding as off the beaten track but it has good parking and walkers and cyclists appreciate this diamond in the Kent countryside. The owners deserve a pat on the back for re-opening The Golden Lion as a genuine English Country Pub.

Our walking group has visited this pub various times over the years. I would say it was formerly all right. Now there has been a vast improvement. It is very friendly, the food plentiful and very tasty (I had tomato pudding and never even heard of that before but was really good). A dozen of us descended on them with barely an hour's notice, but the table was set waiting for us. Those of us who always moan were not moaning ; those of us who moan were all saying what I good experience it was. The beer was Tribute and Broadside, both in good condition. We were well looked after by two ladies. It was not even expensive. With pubs closing down all over the place, and a lot of those remaining devoting themselves, often badly, to food, this place is to be commended. The one thing that remains the same - the roaring log fire. I saw never seen, or felt , a better fire. Strongly recommended.

Nice pub in an isolated spot. They had a big fire going when we visited on a cold day, it was really chucking out some heat. St.Austell Tribute was fine, they also had Adnams Broadside on pump. Food was good and pretty cheap too. Very friendly, helpful staff.

Have been to the Golden Lion twice recently. What a transformation. The place has really been smartened up and you get a warm welcome. Enjoyed Adnams Broadside and St Austells Tribute ale. Well priced pub grub too. The garden is excellent. New owners I gather. Will be back soon.
