Now Montgomery's Tower. 7 real ales on when I visited yesterday, including two locals. Two bars in use. Seating outside to the rear (and The Armoury is just the next building behind Montgomery's). Not a bad place at all, though probably is a different place on Friday/Saturday nights than when I went!!

Called in here for a pint last night. Had GK IPA on at 99p of course. But they were selling Badger Tanglefoot( 5.1%) at 1.09 !!!! What's all that about ?? Very nice it was too. I didn't have the cheek to try and use a 50p CAMRA token as well.

Smart and modern Lloyds No1 bar surprisingly offering 5 regular ales plus two guests. Abbot, Pedigree and GK IPA make up the usual suspects along with locally sourced Salopian Shropshire Gold and Wood Shropshire Lad. The chap behind the bar explained that, as part of the Wetherspoon chain, they were having to sell GK IPA at a much lower price than the other ales which was affecting the throughput of the others and meant that the numer of guest ales had been temporarily reduced from two to one. Overall an interesting concept- good selection of real ales (the Shropshire Gold was excellent) in a venue that also offers a dancefloor and DJs at weekends. With venues like this and the Salopian Bar in Shrewsbury, could the town become responsible for making real ale fashionable?

From the outside this place looks something like a public building. Inside it has a nightclub feel & is dark. Very large Lloyds No. 1 Bar with plenty of room to sit. Slow service but its about par for the course with most Wetherspoons.

Very smart Lloyds No 1 bar, not to be confused with the desperate, chav ridden pub called Lloyds across the road. Lots of comfy seating and alcoves. Has two bars, with several handpumps on each, although both bars had the same beers. I tried a pint of Shropshire Lad which was a little hazy, by the end of the pint (when it was too late to take it back) the slightly off taste was getting worse so I left some of it (bit of a first there). Nice enough pub, but the beer quality was definitely questionable. I'll give it another chance in a week or two.
