Reasonable pub; bit of a “railway carriage” in internal layout. Service was pleasant. They do a good pint of Sharp’s Doom Bar bitter here and the excellent Real brand of hand-cooked crisps (not “chips”). The roast dinners being delivered to an adjacent table looked good but we didn’t try them. Very handy for the Harbour station and the Historic Dockyard. (Actually, their postcode is PO1 3DT, if you're using satnav.) Mona_Growser - 3 Oct 2012 11:25
Worth coming here for the roast dinners, good service and big portions. Reverend - 25 Dec 2011 19:11
One of the most amazing pubs I have ever been! Can spend hours just looking at the pictures of Nelson and Lady Hamilton that they have adorning every wall. Food is absolutely amazing, you would be hard pushed to find a bigger or tastier roast dinner at such a reasonable price! One (long) weekend my husband and I actually managed to fit in 5 roasts each!! Took the father in law, the niece and 2 of our friends and they all agreed it is absolutely fantastic!!!! bicyboo - 4 Nov 2011 22:28
I had an overnight stay in August '11 after having had a few decent pints there whilst on my way to Gosport. I had been in the Lady Ham 3 or 4 times beforehand just for a few pints after the journey down fom Merseyside. I've NEVER had bad pint, always had courteous and friendly service from the staff and when I stayed there B&B, I had the biggest, most delicious cottage pie with trimmings I've ever had in my life. So much so when I came down for brekkies the following morning, all I could manage was 2pieces of toast and a cup of tea. The sleeping arrangements were very good, no complaints about them. I'll be going down to Gosport next week and will be booking in for at least 1 night. No complaints whatsoever about the place. Scousedave - 27 Sep 2011 19:56
Smallish "good-grub" pub right on Portsmouth Hard that also does B&B. Very handy for Portsmouth Harbour train/ferry/bus including those going to Ryde on the Isle of Wight (not handy for the car ferry, for that use the ABar bistro or Gunwharf Quays). The bar is long and thin and has a number of small wooden cublicles at the fron that can be cosy, or cramped, depending on your size. Getting four adults into a cubicle is a squuze, but fine for two or adults with kids. Larger groups or those that like to spread themselves or belongings out can go to the back of the bar where there are "normal" pub tables and chairs. The management don't might if you pull a couple of tables together for groups larger than four people. The walls show a lot of maritime memorabilia, with a focus of course on Lord Nelson and Lady Hamilton. Toilets are functional but not modern. It's a half decent pub, that usually has good beer and does very good pub food at a reasonable price. But that said, it does lack soul and in the 10 years I've known it, the management haven't done anything noticible in the way of improvement. They had a good business model, but that, like the decor, is at least a decade out of date. You'll not have a bad time in the "Lady-H", but you won't come away adding it to you list of "must go back there one day" places. sleepy_meerkat - 27 Mar 2011 14:45
