Good music venue at the weekend and has sky sports and roaring fires. Decent range of real ales, Sells great pork pies too. Would be a 9 if the beer was consistently well kept but the beer quality is patchy so it's a 7.

Utterly beautiful pint of Black Hole "Starry Night" quaffed here, nice local with good selection of ales. 8/10

Very good place. Has festivals frequently and a varied selection always on pump. Staff friendly. Worth a visit anytime you are in Belper.

Since my last review this place has changed hands and has gone up in the world. It is now Belper's main real ale pub. There's always six ales on, three of which are regular and three of which are guests. The regulars are Tower East Mill Bitter (the pub's flagship beer named after the town's famous landmark), Exmoor Gold and Greene King Abbot. The three guests change regularly, in fact I don't think I've ever seen an empty pump there. The beers are all listed on a board outside the door, and they always seem happy to let you try before you buy. Needless to say, the beer always gets 10/10 for quality. There are also two real ciders available, one from the barrel and one from the handpump. The landlord seems to know exactly what he is doing, even though I've heard he doesn't drink! To top it off, the pub also boasts an open fire and traditional pub games. The staff are also very friendly and the regulars seem a nice bunch too. This is a perfect example of what a real British pub should be!

Decent enough pub with an above average selection of proper beer - though there was (unbeknown to me) a festival on. Smokers are treated to a covered, heated area populated with what look like seats from a coach. Nice and friendly enough staff and clientelle.
