Friendly local pub which sells Banks' bitter among other varying choices. It's the sort of pub that would be your local if you were (local, that is). There are whole towns that don't even have pubs like this any more.

Lively, quite noisy pub with a good mix of people in. Seemed like a locals pub with an accent on sport mixed. Noticed a few shoppers in there too. Usual range of beer from the big brewers but also hand pumps to attract the real ale drinkers (mine was very nice!).

The Archivist (see below) decribes the decor better than i ever could!

large corner pub with neat brick facade. The interior is one main long room, with a side room containing a couple of pool tables. Plain white walls, with Chesterfield type leather seating. The place was clean, in fact the mop was still in the corner. The service was friendly enough. The clientel was mixed and it was getting busy. It was a Friday night, so the music volume went up a bit too.

Usual taps with Banks's Bitter, Hobgoblin and Church End Hop Gun on handpull. The Hop Gun was fine.

As a miserable person, i would like this pub better had it been more quiet, but would definately return

Popped in here after a visit to the market vaults as both are gbg listed pubs. This was a lot busier although its what u would expect on a sat afternoon, quite a large open plan building, the service was good but the pint was on it's way out sadly, 7/10..just!!

After a distressing experience in the W*therspoons, I had high hopes of the White Lion after reading a positive review on here and of course spotting it in the Beer Guide. Imagine my absolute disgust when I arrived here on a Saturday night at 7pm to find that the WHOLE PUB was closed for a private function. Raging, I left and found somewhere else to enjoy my custom. 1/10 simply for being there.
