Situated between the town's Curtis Museum and Allen Gallery, the Crown is a pub/hotel at the top end of the High Street with a handy car park at the rear. It's a fairly quiet place with some fairly unique large polished tables. Doom Bar & TEA were the two real ales. I think there's better pubs in Alton though.

Visited recently with some friends. Not quite as bad as previous reviews. Food was mostly good and reasonable (avoid the omelettes though!). Two real ales on hand pumps situated behind the bar. Courage Best was fine. Service was friendly and loos were clean.

Large hotel and pub on the corner of the High St.

I visited here on Saturday as pub number 2 and was greeted to a large sign on a blackboard propped up against the pumps advising that due to high brewery prices they advised purchasing bottles and not pints! It was obvious the bottles had been bought in and not via brewery

Says it all so me and travelling party duly departed without purchasing a drink.

One last thing the place stank of stale fat from the kitchen, most unpleasant.

A sad reflection on what had been the best Pub for miles.

Went on a Friday evening (10.15-ish) - there were only 2 other people there. The lousy atmosphere is largely caused by the fact that local radio is played very loudly. I've a feeling that this place is run largely as a hobby by the manager. It's a shame, because with its history and prominent position this pub should be heaving.
