I was prevented from entering the Jug & Bottle twice in the last 5 weeks due to not having booked a table. Most pubs have now relaxed Covid-19 restrictions but clearly the Stange & Co pub group have not. I'll be interested to see if they maintain this charade as Christmas approaches.

The Jug & Bottle was the better of the two pubs we visited in Heswall that is listed on BITE. It is high on the hill overlooking the river. Despite being fairly early on a Saturday, it was already busy with drinkers and diners, both being represented in some fairly large groups. Ales were Brains The Rev James, Brimstage Trapper's Hat, Slater's Premium, Rock The Boat Bootle Bull, Big Bog WPA & Purple Moose Dark Side of the Moose. There is unfortunately no real cider. Decent place though. We moved on from here to the disappointing Blind Pig, the excellent Beer Lab (both in Heston) and ultimately the splendid Connoisseur Ales Tasting Room in St Helens. I'll request the latter two be added and will wait with baited breath.

Visited last Saturday night. It was busy and lively. Still a very good choice of ales available. I had a lovely pint of Elderflower Wheat from the local Brimstage Brewery. Still well worth a visit.

Pleasantly surprised at the sight and size of the rebuilt pub. It is unrecognisable.
Very crowded last night due to it being the first Saturday night since re-opening. It was so crowded that I'll have to return in a few weeks when hopefully it is less crowded and I can see the full extent of the changes. However, the bar was definitely longer than before. Still 5 ales and a cider on draught plus all the usual fizzy stuff. Well worth a visit.

Apparently the Jug & Bottle is closing for 6 weeks from 24th October 2016 for a rebuild/refurb. I hope this doesn't mean loss of the already small drinking area in favour of more restaurant space.
