Saw this place in the current Good Beer Guide and had high hopes. But it was very disappointing. Music was blasting out as I entered. This was apparently DJ Nigel, with a selection of tracks on his laptop! The pub is fairly traditional. The Indian landlord was struggling to understand my drink order. Not sure if it was due to my southern accent or the noise emanating from DJ Nigel. But we got there eventually. The 2 real ales were Wychwood Hobgoblin & Welbeck Abbey Helen Let's Get Fiscal. As per previous reviews, I agree that there are some interesting characters in here. Moved onto the Record Café (not listed on here) for a slightly more civilised, if not more drunken crowd.

I'm impressed that some people have the independence of spirit to see for themselves, after Mappiman's pictorial, deadpan description.

Flashing Christmas tree lights adorn the windows and there was too much horseflesh on display from the ample 'fillies' on the stools at the bar. It was friendly enough and the ale was okay but I felt a bit like I was on the set of a Tod Browning film at times.

I'm afraid today has to be written off as a bad night. This is number 3 on a list of pubs in a crawl from pubsgalore.com and the cask marque app on my phone. There are two other punters. One of those is a bin man in his work clothes. He has just been headbutted by a foreigner (his words, not mine). To be fair, the pint of Cumberland was OK, but once the headbutted bin man had gone, I felt like I was sitting in someone's front room. I have been to many cities and taken part in random pub crawls but I dont think I have been as scared and disappointed as I have in Bradford.

Scruffy with a somewhat ragtag clientele and also very quiet whenever I have been there but somehow it works for me. Beer range can be limited away from weekends but normally something that appeals.
