Shocked how much this has gone downhill....what has gone wrong with the RP.

Went here for the first time a week ago on my visit to Gravesend.. Not sure why I hadn't visited before especially as I'd been to the Three Daws just along the road.
As with the Daws the pub is large with maritime memorabilia on the walls and a view of the Thames from the area out the back of the pub.
There is a solid old fashioned feel to the pub.
The lady behind the bar was friendly and helpful.
There were half a dozen or more real ales available (an improvement on the Three Daws), including Draymans Droop, Westerham Grasshopper & NW Western pal Ale.
The Grasshopper was very tasty!
Will definitely visit here next time I'm in town.

The Rum Puncheon is a lovingly restored old fashioned pub with 7 hand pumps that on my visit had 5 ales on with all of them bring offerings from Kent breweries. I had a couple of very good pints of Tonbridge’s Union Pale Ale @ 4.7%.

The interior is spartan with wooden flooring throughout, at the top end of the bar are several chandeliers that nicely compliment the stain glass windows, unfortunately since the post by Snarling_Mallard on 12th April 2015 the large window is still broken and boarded up and the front door is still not used to enter or exit the pub.

Half a dozen punters in when we arrived mid-afternoon with 2 people finishing off their lunch which looked pretty good.

The very friendly and chatty barmaid rounded off this visit nicely, the Rum Puncheon is a pub that I will aim to return to next time I’m in Gravesend.

Still a decent alehouse. Seemed as bit more run down then when I was here last time (no access through front door, large window broken) but it kind of added to the character and made it feel more of a proper boozer.

Best pub in Gravesend! Fine range of ales, served well by friendly, welcoming staff. Had two very nice pints of Adnam's Ghost Ship, which I'd never found on tap before locally. Large bar at front was filled with lunch-time diners enjoying some decent looking food (didn't order lunch myself). Adjoined to the garden at the rear, which sits under a lovely, large tree, and appears to form part of the Elizabeth Gardens pedestrian thoroughfare along the river, so no views from the seating owing to the high sea wall, but nonetheless a very pleasant retreat from the town centre. It's a good enough reason to return to Gravesend, certainly by day- no idea if the clientele and atmosphere are any different by night. I hope it exercises a stringent door policy to keep out the yobs that spoil Gravesend for normal people.
Overall, this pub and the surrounding area are set to benefit from much needed redevelopment in the main town. I hope it doesn't change the pub though, as it's good enough as it is.
