user reviews of the Litten Tree, Worksop

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The litten tree is situated at the northerly end of the town centre area, adjacent the canal and several other town bars in that spot. This particular one is a converted hardware store, owned as a pub initially by laurel group [Yates, etc], and since this year by the town & city pub company who took over. Theres a pay carpark next to it and other town parking close by.

first impression of the interior is modern style open plan with one large area, consisting of table seating for about 50-60, and standing area nearer the bar. at the rear is a built-in disco platform for the evenings.

we called in to eat last saturday lunch. Once seated I started to take in more of the surroundings. most of the soft seats were damaged and heavily stained with drink spillage. The menu pages were also stuck together with old drinks spills. The menu was still the standard Yates options with mains at around 5 or 2-for-5.95.
Some of the drinks were noticably well priced. guinness 2.10, j.smith 1.60, echo falls wine 4.95/bottle.

I ordered our meal at the bar. the staff were polite and reasonably quick. however we ended up waiting a total of over 90 minutes for our two courses. while the place was not particularly busy! that said, I noticed a sign for kitchen staff vacancies so maybe they were temporarily short staffed. I'm willing to give some lee-way here as the meals [2-for-5.95] were nicely cooked and decent portions, with the standard Yates dressed side-salad which is one of my favourites.
***
the toilets were clean and smelled fresh, but there was a display of punch holes in the wall on the way there, and one of the toilet cubicles was minus a door!

verdict:
I'm sure this was a nice pub when opened. however its now in need of some repair and a good clean out. the drink spillage and toilet damage is purely down to their regular "clientelle". also the kitchen could be a bit better organised.
the meals and drinks were good value, but they're obviously getting a reckless crowd in the evenings.
a 5 from me as it stands.
