With time for one pub for a post-match drink, we headed to the Slubbers Arms in the Hillhouse area of the town. This is very much a locals' pub, with a mature clientele. But, despite being away fans, we were welcomed. The main bar is cosy and the smaller snug similarly so, albeit much colder. The ale selection was Timothy Taylor Landlord & Boltmaker, Slater's 1 Hop, Stockport Jester, 3 Piers Mild & Fell Motueka Chinook. I opted for the mild, which was in good form. Recommended if in this part of town.

This has to be the best pub name ever ! A good walk from the station but well worth it and it was our last port of call before the football - in fact we liked it so much we called in again after the game (which we won 1-0) Taylors Best was excellent and they still use to old name - not the daft new Boltmaker!!! There was a good selection including a mild and the pub was busy before the match but we did not have to wait long to get served by the very friendly and cheery staff We were almost first in after the game so had more time to choose our beers but we stuck with Taylors as it was so good Single wedge shaped room with a snug at the back Very pleasant feel to it and a good atmosphere where we didn't feel out of place. Head out to The Slubbers and then you can get to The Sportsman on the way back into town. There are buses that pass by but the walk was not that difficult

Visited this pub for the 1st time last night and was impressed - it's unspoilt, the fire was blazing, it was quite busy and the licensees were really friendly. There were several real ales avilable including one at just £1.60!

What on earth has gone wrong? 10pm Saturday - six people in, plus us two.
Ive always thought The Slubbers to be good but over-rated and more so since Taylors lost their way, but this was a depressing experience.
Lets start with the good two different pints (not Taylors) were excellent quality.
The bad. The place stank of bad drains. It was cold, and I dont feel the cold. Barmaid was clearly in training and the gaffer was wrong side of the bar, where he stayed even when nine people arrived together. He got off his arse to sweep up a broken glass.
Someone complained, so it took two staff to break some wood up for the fire, which lasted about five minutes.
What a shame. This pubs in a roughish part of Huddersfield but is full of character and has been a gold mine in the past. Maybe they rely on it being rammed before and after Town games.
Not rated it.

Former Timothy Taylors pub, now independant. The beer range and prices have improved recently and quality is as good as ever. Lovely, traditional corner pub.
