user reviews of Y Branwen, Harlech

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

As the previous reviewer says, Y Branwen feels more like a restaurant/hotel than a pub/bar. Nevertheless, they do have Purple Moose Snowdonia Ale and there were a couple of guests from Sharp's - Doom Bar & Atlantic. Staff are friendly and there's a nice slate floor. Otherwise, it was fairly underwhelming.

There's a strong focus on the hotel/restaurant business but the bar still feels like a pub, which is nice. Pleasant, spotlessly clean, very friendly staff, decent beer, TV on but not too loud, excellent food.

Went in a few times over the previous weekend; friendly pub, serves good beer and chatty bar staff.
Restaurant is good too.

Pub sits below Harlech Castle and is divided into distinct bar area and restaurant area. Four real ales were on offer last weekend. Quiet when we visited but locals & bar staff were friendly. Outdoor seating available. Good Beer Guide entry.

Looks like a gastropub from the outside, but it has a deservedly popular bar as well as a restaurant. Four real ales on, including the excellent local Glaslyn Ale from the Bragdy Mws Piws (Purple Moose Brewery). Recommend stop for anybody visiting Harlech Castle. (NB - Review relates to visit in September 2008 before pub was added to BITE.)
