After a gap of almost 9 years, we were back in New Quay to try the Black Lion. It's on a steep hill down towards the sea. The interior has a modern and fairly clinical feel. For a pub in the current Good Beer Guide, the ale range was also disappointing - Glaslyn Ale & Doom Bar. The garden overlooks the bay. It has a children's play area. But, it was all a bit muddy and cold for my 7 year old to enjoy. Not as good as I'd hoped.

Sparse interior but the real draw is the large beer garden. I ignored the Doom Bar in favour of the Purple Moose Elderflower Ale which was good.

just back from New Quay and used this pub quite a lot whilst there, lovely beer garden over looking the harbour, very busy possibly due to the really nice weather, but seemed to attract lots of locals as well as us tourists, the regular ale was Doom bar, but they also served a regularly rotating local guest ale, both the ones I tried where very good(Blodwyn & Purple Moose) the food and service where also good

Surprised some members had reasonable food here. We received the worst meal we've been served in a very long time. My "steak" in ale pie was all gristle and tasteless chewy meat of the worst imaginable quality. My wifes chicken curry swimming in slimey fat. We complained to two members of staff who seemed unsurprised and unconcerned. Obviously aimed at tourists as nobody would eat here twice!

2/10 as the beer was fairly good!

Good food, but place was empty apart from us. Staff hinted that the lack of custom wasn't a one-off. Locals noticeable by their absence. Doesn't look good to visitors when this happens.
