| My first visit today. Despite living in the locality for 12 years, its well off my beaten track, so I specifically made the trek out of curiosity today. First things 1st - no real ale. A bad start. The pub itself was empty, all the 'action' is out back in the somewhat run-down shisha and outdoor seating area at the back that has two screens. Promotional offers, music nights and membership discounting are geared entirely towards the local student population. Grilled meat dishes were being served and there's a tie-in with local kebab shops. Staff and many of the young crowd are Arabic speaking. TBH, when I was at Uni drinking gallons of snakebite and black, I'd have absolutely loved this place. But as a grumpy middle-aged old scroat with a penchant for pwopa beer there's nothing for me here. | This was once a great pub, fantastic Turkish food, really nice outside area and great atmosphere. What has happened is that the people who run it think you can keep a pub going without any attention at all. The outside area is now broken and run down, the furniture is shabby and dirty. | Love this pub. It IS a hidden gem Strongers and I hope it stays that way - stuff 'Spoons (sorry, "Spouters" - like the change of name makes any difference), the Goose, the Anglers, Tollgate and the Nelson. I agree about the Scottish manager but I'm not sure he's there any more - haven't seen him on my recent visits. It seems to have 3 or 4 older Turkish men doling out the orders (Sopranos spring to mind ha) but the back garden area is the only place we go - great heating, covered areas, backgammon boards, hopefully more live music and fantastically fresh food that's really inexpensive and in large portions. | I had been here when it had newly opened. Very quiet and quite evidently still undiscovered. I visited a few days ago again, and so much change has been made. Much busier than the last time I had gone. The back of the pub has been made brilliant use of with relaxing seating and a shisha area. Freindly staff too.
