Character aplenty in an historic building across the way from Rochdale's magnificent town hall, we arrived after 10pm on a Saturday night so what seemed to be a divorcees' extended night out was in full swing and wasn't for the feint hearted. The beer selection was good but an avoidable band were about to strike up. BoehmBawerk - 3 Nov 2014 13:19 |
Dire does not begin to describe this pub, a dark, gloomy excuse for a hostelry with no redeeming features. Two ales were available from Timothy Taylor, i opted for the Cheddar Potter guest ale, drinkable and suitably priced. A bit of lighting and atmosphere would go a long way! nokegthanks - 14 Sep 2012 22:52 |
I came in here as it's in the great British beer guide! And boy did this pub not disappoint. It was St Patricks day when I came in, 7 beers on draught and of the 3 I had the quality was excellent. Rochdale is a funny little place but I quite like it and then there's the gothic looking town hall which is stunning and sits just opposite this lovely free house. Being St Patricks day and Rochdale being at home to local rivals Oldham the pub was filling up nicely around 12 noon, the welcome was warm, the locals friendly and a roaring log fire was on.....what more could you want? I'm sure this pub is on plenty of people's ale trail when in Rochdale but if Isn't then add it now. A really cracking pub with a lovely atmosphere. lezford - 27 Mar 2012 19:10 |
Pleasant, friendly pub with a choice of good real ales. wobblybob - 15 Feb 2011 20:59 |
A welcoming pub with friendly punters and in very nice area of Rochdale town centre - sit outside on a sunny day, it's great. As for the beer, there were about 5 Ales on. We went for the local brew of Phoenix Arizona and the Phoenix Mild that was on offer. Nice bunch of Northampton football fans in there as well - a good, solid town centre pub offering quality ale. Good meeting point before heading off to the game via Baum... kernott1 - 22 Aug 2010 09:12 |
