user reviews of Crooked Billet, Ware

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Crooked Billet was easily the best of 3 Ware pubs we tried yesterday. It is a 2 roomed pub where conversation is king. There is a small room on entry, with one end dominated by a dart board. The second room is larger, but has a pool table at the far end. Ales were Otter Bitter, Lacons Falcon Ale, Adnams Mosaic Pale Ale & Nethergate Umbel Ale. Ciders and perries were Aspalls Ciderkyn & Westons Old Rosie, Rosie's Pig & Country Perry. The Good Beer Guide states that there's always 1 or 2 dark beers (mild, porter or stout). But sadly this proved incorrect. The locals seemed a bit too cliquey too. But nevertheless, this did feel like a proper pub that deserves another try some time.

Another one of the wonders of Ware, great pub stuck up the hill away from the riff raff by the river. Its not big and gets by on the local trade. TV for sport and unfortunately it does have the corporate carpet and such like trimmings, but with two open fires and friendly staff its worth going to. The ale was well worth the hike, with three real ales, two of which were from the Tring Brewery. The Dog was brilliant. Don't go if you want wine.

Good, no-nonsense local's pub wuth a decent range of ales at reasonable prices (3.05 for Butcombe). Worth the trek up the hill.

A bit out of the way for a visitor to Ware and at the top of a backbreaking hill. You wouldn't pass this pub by accident. Great selection of real ales however, fantastically kept and served with a smile. 2 televisions with different games shown for the football fan. Not in the best position in the bar however and I always leave with a neck ache if I get in the seats below the main screen.

Probably the best beer in Ware though for the hardy real ale drinker.
