user reviews of Prince of Wales, Herftord

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

It has recently been announced that the pub is to close at the end of 2013, apparently because planning applications to extend the restaurant and accommodation, vital if the venue is to stand a chance of viability, have been repeatedly rejected. If this is the reason, it is depressingly short-sighted of the local authority because the pub is run very caringly by two excellent landlords who serve good beer and provide decent food at moderate prices. This marks the demise of yet another village local, leaving customers no option but to resort to the horribly over-priced and chaotic White Horse Hotel down the road, where you will be hard-pushed to find an acceptable pint of draught ale.

A new menu is now available. Most meals cost about 8 or some dishes two for 10. Quality remains very good and served on a warm plate (other chef's please take note).
I am often informed that Tring and Buntingford ales appear regularly - but never, it seems, when I'm in here. All three beers on Saturday were from the ghastly Greene King brewery: IPA, Ruddles and Sundance.
I don't know if my taste-buds are knackered but the beer here rarely tastes in tip top condition. Mind you - GK tastes crap anyway!

I really like this pub the staff are attentive, the beer/ale is great and the food homemade. The owners are nice guys and its clearly on the up from what the prince used to be like. Comfy sofa's a nice smoking area and regular live music and quizs are all great reasons to visit.

There have been a few changes of Landlord over the past few years. The current couple seem to have found the right
combination for choice of food and real ale.
The chef makes lovely homemade shortcrust meat pies. Meal prices are slightly above average - but worth it.
Greene King IPA (groan) is the standard beer with two ever changing guest ales.
I was informed that Buntingford and Tring beers often feature.
Their website includes a slide-show that gives you views of its L-shaped interior.
