| I stayed in this "pub" in the summer and fail to see why it gets so many good reviews in so many places. To be sure, it is in a fabulous location and the building is pleasing and the staff very courteous and friendly. But. It doesn't know what it wants to be... Is it a pub - no, the bar is part of the restaurant. Two or three stools taking second place to the food trade. Theakstons I had on first evening was sour. Is is a restaurant - no, the menu is extensive but its too extensive and there is nothing that notably takes pride in using local produce. Also when the piping hot first course arrives within minutes of ordering one has to wonder if its a microwave experience. Is it a hotel, well... The breakfasts are first rate but the room in which its served is depressingly dark. And, after having dinner, because there is no bar or lounge area there is no where for residents to to sit and chill in the evening. So its - eat dinner fast, grab quick drink and up to room. | Fantastic, and I mean fantastic, food, though pricey - you need to book in the evenings, and you'd be hard pushed to just pop in for a pint (perhaps during the day). Various well-kept offerings from Black Sheep (ordinary and Rigwelter), but the food's the main deal here, for which it's thoroughly reccomended shortbirdy - 7 Jul 2009 14:28 |
