user reviews of Peacock Lodge, Lingfield

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I don't even know if anyone will read this, but I felt that I had to comment after reading the other two reviews. I know there were from a long time ago and since then the pub has a new manageress. Since the new manageress has been running things the service and food have improved tremendously. The thought of someone waiting 20 minutes at the bar is ridiculous and I have never once seen anything like that. Not all of the produce is of the greatest quality, for example, yes they do use frozen mash potato, but so do most other places these days and with it being a 2 for 10 restaurant that is all they can afford when a meal only costs 5. But anyway, that is an issue with the company as a whole, not this pub personally. Some customers love the place so much that they come in virtually every day, honest to god!! The staff and helpful and friendly. I strongly recommend this as a welcoming family restaurant.

Casting aside the wait of 20 minutes at the bar (with only 3 other people waiting) and the appalling service the pub has obviously been refurbished and looks presentable which is the only plus I can see. Whilst waiting for our food to arrive I saw two people returning their food and the adjacent table being told sorry we forgot to cook one of your meals so we shall quickly reheat one for you. At this point I knew I was in for something special. The food we were served was of the lowest quality meat and produce I have experienced in any supermarket/pub/restaurant. My mixed grill comprised of a very very watery piece of chicken, gristly steak, fatty and watery gammon, watery sausage, grey (yes grey) over boiled peas and soggy chips. My partners half chicken faired no better with the same grey peas (surely out of a tin) and what tasted like packet mash potato?? I feel for the chef who has to try his best to work with such inferior foods. 500k spent on a refurbishment yet the Peacock opts to pound pinch over the food quality. A stomach turning disappointment leaving two plates of half eaten food on the table. Never again.

First impressions weren't good - plenty of staff milling around but it still took two minutes for someone to serve me (at an empty bar). Only London Pride on tap, and it turned out that was off. General atmosphere of discontent amongst the staff and customers - I won't be coming back.
