It looks like there has been a change of policy with the company who own this and other "Lounges" as the handpulled beer has gone and has been replaced with a "craft" brew called Cruiser. It comes from the Bristol Beer Factory and is described as an Amercian style IPA. It wasn't available on my last visit so I can't comment on the taste or quality but we have lost a real ale .

Waited for no less than ten minutes at the bar. Three staff saw us walk in but chose to ignore us leaving us waiting while a young chap with dirty ripped clothes was on the phone. It should have been obvious to the other 3 girls that he could not serve us but they decided to ignore us , carrying on with their chat . So after patiently waiting and examining the menu we still had nobody to serve us (despite instructions telling us to order at bar) so we just walked out , stared at by the 3 girls who just simply did not care. We found a lovely little cafe instead a few doors down on the corner and had a lovely lunch and coffees there instead. And that's where we shall go from now on.

Sterile and characterless; unfortunately the exact kind of gastro establishment that the multi-cultural slum known as Reading is full of.

This is a cross between a bar and a bistro. Too small for its function really, and can get very cramped when all the tables are taken. That said, it's customer friendly, has a wide range of customers at different times of day, and serves very decent burgers.

If you like a pint filled with strange white Debris then the Alto Lounge is your place. The three of us all enjoyed the challenge of trying to scoop out the unidentified sludge (it was in the bitter and the lager) and it made for excellent conversation. There was great speculation about what the white bits were but the barman was confident it wouldn't kill us if we drank it.
When we switched to bottled beer we were disappointed that our conversation turned to more mundane subjects.
I am going back but am taking a sieve next time.
