Went in here at 5:30 last Saturday afternoon. The place was absolutely packed. Couldn't get near the bar. No idea what ales were available. A mate eventually returned from the bar with a couple of pints of Cheshire Gold which was a nice, light ale and well kept. Good to see a bar which is clearly thriving just a pity I couldn't enjoy it due to the crush. I should have stayed in the nearby Wetherspoons (the Queens Picture House) which was spacious and holding a beer festival. wirraldrinker - 24 Apr 2013 14:50
@matt beer you were obviously very unlucky on your visit as there is always 4+ real ales on normally(6 from thursday to sunday) the four on of a weekday is to ensure quality through quieter periods of the week an artisan cider on draught is forthcoming. if there was two on they were either cleaning the lines or actually changing the beer over to a new brew im a regular in this pub and you can see up to 24 different real ales a week, not bad for a grotty little boozer(ive seen 10 differnt ones appear on a friday night alone..... critch - 5 Aug 2011 11:32
This was the best of the 4 Waterloo pubs we tried yesterday. It's also very handy for the train station. The front opens up onto the street providing a continental-type feel. The interior itself is fairly bland with a single room containing a stage for live music. Around the walls are pumpclips and pictures with musical associations. All 6 handpulls were occupied on our visit - Brimstage Trappers Hat, Southport Golden Sands & Cyclone, George Wright Moche Piwo, Robinsons Hannibal's Nectar & Boggart Rum Porter. Whilst there is no real cider available (Strongbow will shortly be replaced with Thatchers Gold according to the barman), there is a good bottled selection of ciders including Thatchers Katy, Old Rascal, Green Goblin & Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon. Whilst possibly not the best drinking environment in Waterloo, this place warrants a visit for its beers. blue_scrumpy - 3 Apr 2011 12:31
Long narrow pub near Waterloo Station, live music a feature. At least 5 real ales, usually local and small breweries, excellent quality. Can be very busy at peak times. paul_ove_walldner - 18 Jan 2011 13:19
| Contemporary, music-oriented bar across the road from Waterloo station, deep in suburban Liverpool. As noted, it's dark and slightly dingy (unlike it's sister pub in Crosby) , although hardly disgusting. Personally, I prefer this to a completely whitewashed, character-free bar, and it does give it more of a 'pubby' feeling. The one room stretches up to the bar, in the top left hand corner, and there is free Internet opposite this- a rarity! Mostly popular with a younger crowd, but there was a mixed clientele on my visit. Beer-wise, it's pretty strong, with plenty Locales from Southport, Liverpool Organic, Liverpool One etc. Golden Sands from Southport was good as ever. It's an all-round decent place, not worth the trip out of the city centre on merit alone but if you're heading to the excellent Volunteer Canteen nearby, there's every reason to pop in here.
