Now the only pub in the village and I might have sampled the Theakston's Best (or the Hambleton Stud Blonde or the Recoil White Snake) had the kitchen been open last Thursday until 8.30pm as stated on the pub's website. However, as there was no food being served when we arrived, we decided not to stop. With nobody else present, I can't see this pub surviving for much longer in its current incarnation.

Pub is now closed and looks like it has been for a few months. Weeds growing around the walls and car park. Nothing to indicate wether it is temporary and no for sale sign outside

Cosy and welcoming village local which accommodates drinkers and diners harmoniously. Beer is well kept - I had excellent pints of Copper Dragon Best and Tetley Bitter. The landlady is particularly proud of the latter, and with good reason. Food was very good, looking and tasting home made, and although a vegetable side dish wouldn't have gone amiss, nothing to complain about. Good value.

Biggish local in a sprawling village between Harrogate and Ripon. There are two very good pubs in the village, this is my prefered one. Three handpumps with well kept Tetley Bitter and Mild, although there are frequent guests. Multiple drinking areas all comfortably furnished in traditional style. A mix of old and new photos, mirrors and adverts with Britannia tables and a wood burning stove completing a traditional but not old fashioned style. There is a wide front bar with several distinct areas including a pool room at the rear end of the pub and a more formal dining area at the back at the other side. It's a minor quibble but like many pubs that do food this one would benefit from an air extractor, this has become much more noticeable since the smoking ban.
