user reviews of Duke of Cambridge, Marlow

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Now known simply as the Duke, this is a backstreet pub in Marlow that I noted was served by the local bus. It was struggling to fit between the parked cars. The pub doubles up as a Chinese restaurant and has some unusual décor, especially in the rear garden. Heavy metal music was playing in the bar. But I don't believe this is the norm. Some heavy metal types had been requesting tracks on the jukebox to the annoyance of the barmaid. Rebellion IPA & Unifer were the ales.

I got off the bus down the road and made my first visit to this back-street pub. I had known about it for years but had never actually got there before so I was pleased to find a good single bar pub with 3 beers on (the previously mentioned Rebellion IPA and Mutiny with the guest beer being Binghams Total Eclipse Black IPA from the new brewery in Twyford). Quality was fine and they always had a good selection of reading material (newspapers and CAMRA magazines). The pub is a short walk from the town centre (up Oxford Road and turn right) and is well worth the effort getting there as it has a good atmosphere and was friendly enough. I would imagine the trade is fairly local plus beer-lovers who will travel to it for the local ales. Good pub!!

Has the worlds largest pumpclip for Rebellion IPA plus they had the 'Mutiny' and a guest from Burton Bridge. Nice little pub with a beer garden at the back - they have a large aviary there (it was there on last visit) with the Chicken coops. Decent sized screen for sporting events.

Not a bad pub, was pretty dead when I went on Saturday during the day, large pub, seems to have 3 real ales on usually although only 2 when I was there. Worth the walk from Marlow centre if you're in town.

Wrote my review of this pub when suggesting it for inclusion so no idea where that has gone. A bit of the beaten track but only current GBG pub in the town itself. I hit it when the Summer Equinox beer fest was on and I'm glad I did. Hervey's Best is permanent with rotating guests, I sampled beers fron stillage at the back including Lovibonds Henley Dark which was very good. Chicken coops out the back in the garden. Great pub.
