A little underwhelmed after a meal and drinks here. Food was good but not amazing, on the expensive side. Service was reasonably slow, it took about 50 minutes for starters to arrive (soup). The local ale here is passable. Beautiful surroundings and it does have character, it just somehow is not quite reaching its potential.

well all i can say is whats moast dissapointing, is that none of you seam to no good food when you have it. i thave eaten here meny a time, and have never had a bad meal yet and its one of my faverat places to eat, staff are frendly, and the new decor is amazing.

Popped in on Sunday for a bite to eat, had a pint of Old Cannon which was tasy, but a little hazzy, may have been a chill haze as was cold.
Ordered food, Beef and Stilton pie was ok, although the Stilton was a little lacking in flavour. Partner had a Burger, which was raw in the middle. The replacement came out which was still undercooked to the point the bun was red from the blood. An option of how you have the meat cooked would be better rather than being told that is how it is served.
Cover does not match the contents, ie. Book Cover and judging.

Totally agree with the above comment. As a vegetarian I'm not usually spoilt for choice and this was no exception. I had 1 option which I didn't fancy so ended up having a pudding (which was tiny and not that wonderful) and a serving of about 7 chips. Totally over priced for what we got, the service wasn't wonderful- we were left for about 10 minutes after being seated to be spoken to and even then had to call the waitress over and then it took them 2 weeks to debit my card! I have no idea whats going one with this place but it wouldn't make my recommendation list.

The decor is ok but unoriginal. However it is clean and does have potential.

What a dissapointment! The Royal Oak has been transformed into "The Rusty Gun" Why the name change exactly? Anyway, that's the least of their problems; The menu promises so much, but delivers so little. I went with my family, and apart from having loads of dishes out of stock (is it some kind of boil-in-the-bag microwave restaurant maybe) the scallops were a tiny portion (two cut in half) the fish & chips was tiny, and above all, we waited ages for dishes to arrive. Really not impressed. To their credit, the beer is good, and the decor has been done really well, but the overall result is so unfortunate. No wonder so many pubs are closing.
