Decent town pub serving a number of ales in good nic'. As stated before during 'happy' hour (which has been extended so is now 3pm to 7pm) ales are just £2.20 a pint - usually they are £2.80

Couldn’t believe the price then found out it was Happy Hour. This is £2.20 for a pint of all real ales Mon-Fri 4 to 7 and Sunday12 to 10:30pm according to notice board outside. Choices were two Jennings, Wainwright, Loweswater Gold and Titanic Plum Porter. Great pub with more room at the back if front bar crowded. Also has a beer garden that wasn’t checked out.

The Castle Bar appears to be the best pub in Cockermouth. I didn't venture much further than the front bar (apart from a visit to the gents). The bar area feels quite traditional. But apparently there are separate dining areas beyond and on upper levels. With a table going begging in the bar, I didn't feel the need to explore further. Ales are more adventurous than most other Cockermouth pubs - Titanic Plum Porter, Cumbrian Legendary Ales Loweswater Gold & Esthwaite Bitter, Lancaster Sorachi & Jennings Bitter & Cumberland Ale. Unlike the other 6 pubs I tried in the town, this one also had a real cider - Westons Family Reserve. Locals were watching live football. So I joined in.

This is a stunning pub and restaurant in the attractive town of Cockermouth. I had 2 pubs to tick here with this one being the first.

1 real cider and 5 ales on the hand pumps with Jennings Smooth on keg. I went for a pint of Cumbrian Legendary Ales Loweswater Gold @ 4.3%.

A very nice bar area with wooden floor, wooden bar and plenty of old photos of the local sports teams and old Cockermouth.

Music playing at an acceptable level, the pub was quite empty on my visit.

Plenty of seating to the rear for diners as well as the separate restaurant upstairs and a garden to the rear.

A very good pub and a decent pint.
