user reviews of the Devonshire, Belper

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Been here again twice recently, the first it was pleasant and comfortable. Yesterday was the exact opposite. Yes, it was busy but the manageress? was heard to moan about needing another pair of hands, surely it's her job to get the staffing levels right. It took a while to get served as they were concentrating on taking food orders. 3 Dancing Duck ales and two from Marstons, my Ay Up was ok.

Defining moment was on the way out we were heading towards the door but our way was blocked by the food ordering queue, the barman who'd served us (who needs a personality transplant) came up behind with a food order and wanted us to get out of the way - nowhere to go. I think I'll save the return visit for a cold night in November!

Found this place on the way to FA duties having relocated from the deep south.

Pleasantly refurbished with Dancing Duck ales and an interesting menu. will be visiting again.

They seem to maintain quite high standards in here, and I've always been made to feel welcome. Quite posh really, and seems to be more popular with the more mature clientelle. Only one ale on, always a big brand, which changes now and again.
