Another nice and welcoming Berkshire village pub with a nice interior and a garden on different levels. At the bottom level is a small children's play area. Staff were friendly. But the ale choice is limited to Young's Special & Sharp's Doom Bar. We made use of the mobile fish and chip van in the car park, which was doing a good trade.

Well I suppose it's all a matter of personal taste but I actually like the beers here. I live a few miles away but use this as my "local". Why? Because it's a friendly, well run, traditional pub with great food and the most delightful landlady you could meet. Nothing seems too much trouble for her. Food is also excellent value.

If I lived a hundred miles nearer I would use this pub regularly - or at least try it a few times.
Good wide range of food. Standard type meals about 5.60. Tasted ok but need to sample a couple of more times to give an accurate assessment.
Mind you, the kid on the table next to us had three whopping great sausages with his egg and chips. One would have done me.
Ullage can be found here, the local CAMRA newsletter. Handy to have something to read whilst waiting for your lunch to arrive.
Beers were, Youngs Special (ughh), Good Old Boy - (not that special), and Doom bloody Bar (maybe I wouldn't come back again).
If I were a regular I would get them to change the selection of ales.
Maybe it was just the building I liked. Time for my medication.................nurrrrse.

West Berkshire Good Old Boy, Cottage Atlantic (I think), Sharps Doom Bar and Youngs Special all with Cask Marque when I visited on a windy February night. I partook of three of the beers which I thought were in good nick. Locals were playing darts and were friendly to an outsider from up north. Pub grub looked fine though I only had a plate of pate (home made) to go with the beer. Cosy with a roaring fire in a stove between the two parts of the bar. Separate dining area available for posh nosh.

Gives the impression of being a friendly community pub. Good selection of real ales including from the local West Berks Brewery. Friendly to well-behaved children. Looked at menu but didn't eat: seemed okay and gave the impression it would be good pub grub, but nothing fancy. Prices looked okay. Generally favourable impression. Date: March.10
