user reviews of the H G Wells, Worcester Park

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Has music and quizzes, a bit far out of the centre of Worcester Park (a home town of prolific SF writer and shagger HG Wells, hence the name). Used to be called the Queen Victoria I think going by the name of the bus stop next to it. Beer was good.

I feel really embarrassed that I invited a good friend for lunch at the HG Wells. One good point was the bar staff who were very friendly. However the food was dire. My burger came out without the topping requested. My son's food came out with a side salad instead of chips and pepper all over his egg - he is 3!. My friends chips tasted and looked liked they had been cooked many times without actually being cooked in the middle. We were told we could have vinegar but to give it back as they had no more. Ordered ice cream and jelly but they had no jelly. The manager never acknowledged our complaint at all and just avoided all eye contact. 2/3 of the women s toilets had no paper. The baby changing unit flipped up but when pulled back down had a dirty nappy in it. I n the garden there was shards of glass everywhere along with dirty forks and leafs that have been there since last autumn. Such a shame because the food use to be lovely and the bar staff are lovely - shame the manager had no balls to come and speak to us! Ohh and to top it off when we were in the garden the manager came out with a workman and the workman said - where do these sockets lead to - he said dont know. The workman said well be careful cos if a kid sticks his finger in it he is ******!!!!

surprised only a few reviews of this place - normally a good range of ales available including landlord, directors and pride. food top notch, not cheapo, but it's definitely worth the few quid extra.
they normally have some sort of live music on a saturday (we accidentally stumbled onto a freddie mercury tribute which was fun as hell). overall, top pub, wish it was a bit closer as it's one of the top establishments in the area.
