Not sure why I didn't take to this place when there was such a range of beers available; Penzance Trink/Mild, Beartown Lit, Cheddar Frozen Deep/Totty Pot on cask (all around £3.90 a pint) and Alpha State Smoked Marzen, Tempest Sleight of Hand, Fierce by Nature Dark Amber Sour (the most expensive by far at £8 a pint) on keg. Maybe it was the whiff of p@*s that seemed to emanate from somewhere near my chair or maybe it was just bad timing on our part with the all-day drinkers dominating the ambience.

Not really for me to be honest.

I liked the look of the place up the alley and the building inside and out is lovely.

Just found the place a little boring to be honest.

Good selection of drinks though.

A Free House.

Easily missed as its off the high street, but worth the effort of seeking it out. Entry is via some stairs and the pub/bookshop is on the first floor. A large area with tables and chairs scattered around with one bar counter running partially along one side. The book section is separate although clearly visible from the bar area.

Always at least 5 real ales on tap many of which are from outside of the county, also always at least 3 real ciders available.......all of which are in excellent condition and served by cheery staff.

If there is one pub to visit in Falmouth this is it.....a real ale drinkers paradise.

I caught it on a good midweek night, with the pub quiz bringing energy and beer turnover to a fantastic pub, characterful, friendly and with superb beer (local Black Rock and Marble featured). Glad its not my local or would be in there all the time.

A lot of pubs close after slerpy has visited from Croydon; I hope this old place escapes.

Good 'wether' Steve?
