user reviews of the Taproom, Islington

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

The Taproom was my final new pub yesterday. It is a long, thin bar on Upper Street, with a young crowd. There is a pizza oven at the rear. We sat next to it and it certainly made me feel hungry. Casks are in a fridge behind the bar. Real ales were Mad Squirrel Sumo APA & De La Crème, Siren Yulu, 360 Degrees IPA, Taproom Pale Ale & Dark Star Revelation. There was no real cider. But they did have a keg Real Al Company Crafty Apple which I'd not tried before and was nice. Had heard good reports about this place and it lived up to its billing.

Well,I visited about six months ago and it had potential but a lot of areas to polish up on, Hey Presto! One shiny new manager, knowledgable, keen, allied to a work ethic and we have a great watering hole with a choice of both craft and cask. For the bargain hunters all real ales are £3.20 from Sun-Thurs.There's an awful lot of competition in Islington but this is the place at least as long as the manger stays.9/10.

I first dropped into this pub shortly after it opened and was not impressed with the beers I tried. A subsequent visit was not much better. So it pleases me to say that last Friday, prior to seeing The Icicle Works at the Assembly Hall across the road, my friend and I had a most enjoyable session. I drank Hammerton No.7, Anspach & Hobday Autumn Pale and Orbit Beers Ivo - they were all excellent. I'll be back.

Great pub with a wide range of beers. They look as though they may have one beer on each day on special offer. Well worth a visit.
