I choose this pub because the Olde Whyte Hart was booked full.
Now I understand why. We arrived at the King & Queen to find they had no record of our booking. In the event that did not matter as we were the only ones in the restaurant. And it remained that way. Three ales on offer, Otter, Doom Bar & Ringwood best. I had the Otter. The young barmaid placed the cloudy pint on the bar. One sip & it went straight back. Instead I settled for a fairly mediocre pint of Doom Bar. That's a reflection on the way it was kept, not the brewer.
The restaurant was cold though a young lady did light the fire. The menu was very uninspiring & things got worse when the food arrived. Because of the limited menu we went for simple choices. I don't really want to ramble on but there were so many little things wrong. My tagliatelle had so little sauce it was dry. I left most of it. Another of our party had white bait with no bread & butter. My wife had a salad when she asked for a dressing they had none. Quite honestly we were glad to leave.
Later we were told that they had no chef at the moment. If that's the case they had better hurry up & find one. But as far as I am concerned it is off our list. Next time I will book earlier to make sure I get a table at the Whyte Hart. My rating only a 4.

Not bad but the beer chice is rather uninspired consisting of such dull offerings as L.Pride, Doom Bar and a very sulphurous 6X.

Visited this one a few times, overall, not a bad pub, I've actually always forgotten to determine to which brewery this pub belongs, that might be because for one fleeting moment this pub allows you to drift into a make-believe, 'Britain isn't strangled by the brewery system world', as, indeed, it does have some individualism. This is first evident by the nautical theme, but also, and refreshingly for the UK, they seemed to be playing music which wasn't ordered and piped in from the brewery- although the good taste wasn't maintained long. The beer selections are nothing more than average- about 3 ales, but the Best was fine. Bar staff, friendly and chatty, again unusual for Britain, and it all seems pretty relaxed. Britain suffers from a capacity problem with 33 pubs closing every week, and once a few people crowd in then our 'first past the post bar system' means things rapidly spiral out of control- but, that said, we were allowed to eat at the bar- a rare treat indeed in H&S obsessed Britain. The Sunday roasts looks a little like a boiled mush fest to me- although the sandwiches are huge and the fish and chips fresh at least, but the jury is out. Nice crowd of more mature folks, and some scumbags were turned away whilst we were in there, which was great to see. If most pubs in Britain were like this, then it would be a boon for the country. An outstanding grade from me results.

Situated in the high street on the cobbled road before the waterfront it's an OK sort of pub serving 6X, Doombar and Ringwood Best. Sign outside saying "probably the best roasts in Hamble" is pushing it a bit far as the Ye Olde White Hart would lay claim to that. Bar staff always seem a bit more preoccupied with the local sailing crowd and I suppose the fact that they have a laundry on site says it all. Not the best or the worst pub on the Hamble.

Agree with Temperence! Sign outside says "probably the best roasts in Hamble". I would change this to "probably not the best roast in Hamble"! Cheap, but tasted Cheap. Don't advertise what you cant deliver!
