Greene King pub overlooking Wanstead Flats, where what appeared to be several hundred kids were playing football yesterday morning. We were the only visitors, as it was shortly after opening. The pub is nicely appointed. But the ale range was disappointing - Old Golden Hen, Tribute & Harvest Pale. I did at least get a CAMRA discount. But it was disappointing in all.

Nicely isolated but well worth a visit. I found the pub and garden a little grubby but the welcome was warm and there was a decent mix of football playing lads, family's, old boys and couples. It was incredibly busy on the Saturday lunchtime I visited and we found it hard to get a seat but will definitely return. Probably in the week.

The Golden Fleece has been part of the John Barras pub chain for quite a while now and seems to go from strength to strength. We tend to go in there on weekday afternoon's, and have recently been pleased to see how busy it can get during what you'd expect to be a pubs "quiet" time. Being on the southern edge of Wanstead Flats gives it a great location, and the large garden at the rear is an added bonus in fine weather. They usually have a range of four well kept real ales on, plus another two "settling". Prices for both food and beer are very reasonable. The big question to ask about The Golden Fleece is why haven't CAMRA yet included it in The Good Beer Guide?

Check out this pub, not many people know its here, it's a beautiful pub on the edge of Wanstead flats ( part of Epping forest.) Real nice garden with kids play area, kid and dog friendly, they had 5 real ales available which you don't see that often in most pubs, will be back.....
