user reviews of the Royal Oak, Stevenage

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

Quite large, inter-war McMullens 200 yards off the High Street in a residentail area of Old Stevenage. Very comfortable, with a bit of Sky Sports to keep us entertained, at an agreeably respectable volume. I'd guess this was a locals' pub, unlike those on the nearby High Street. Barman wasn't over-friendly. But if I lived around the corner I'd be happy to have this as my local.

Went there at the weekend to see local band The Ska Faces, who were excellent. Locals seem friendly, apart from a couple who had a minor skirmish outside.

There seems to be two sides to the pub. I went in the right side. It seemsed if you wanted to be served then you had to press the bell! There was a dart board and TV. The pub was quiet though, not that meany people there.

Inside they have some good stuff on the walls of old sports people liken a god picture of Nigel Mansell & Damon Hill. Good to look at if you're into that suuff.

Beers on offer were McMullens AK, Country Best Bitter and their special (I can;t remember name sorry). They were all quite nice though. All usual drinks too.

I give 6/10.
