Reasonable enough busy pub which did have a few unusual ales on including a quite nice stout.

Good place to meet people or to grab a pint on your way to or from somewhere but hardly a destination pub. I have to say the range of beers is excellent and the service good. The decor is typical Nicholson's so Victorian in character. It does lack a little personality but I am happy to return and wish this pub well. Of particular note is the Pilsner tanks installed selling unfiltered Pilsner Urquell although at £5 a pint you might just have a quick one.

Agree fully with the review below. Not a place to go for character or a quiet pint. But a good atmospher, and a suprisingly good range of ales including at least two stouts when I was in over Christmas. Certainly a good bet if in the area.

There are times when what I want is a local pub, with no TVs, no fruit machines and quirky locals (and, of course, good beer). Other times, I simply want a pub that is easy to find (crucial if you're meeting friends and want to describe the location/pub), has a decent selection of beer and is not a dive. The Globe falls into the latter category, but is not an awful pub for all that.

The Globe is part of the Nicholson's chain - one step (sometimes) above a Weatherspoons. However, like the Weatherspoon's chain, there is a good, ever changing selection of beers. The staff seem competent though not overly friendly (not unfriendly, however). The prices are dearer than a Weatherspoon's (around 3.35 for a pint of White Horse), but cheaper than many pubs in the City.

Were I looking for a charming pub to have a quiet drink, this may not be my first choice. For a quick pint or two with a friend or two, you could do worse.

Surprised by some of the criticism on here. The Globe is not my favourite place by any means but it's a solid enough Nicholsons pub with a good range of ales, and makes a decent enough place to meet given that it's right next to Moorgate tube. Layout is a bit quirky as others have said, basically two pubs that have been knocked together at some stage. The 'Keats' side has a bit more character and you are more likely to find a seat... there is also a third bar in the dining area upstairs. This is usually staffed and rarely gets busy, in fact if you time it right you can get sometimes get a room and a barperson all to yourself up there.
