user reviews of the Rose and Crown, Nottage

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

After carefully towelling the sand from between the toes of my beloved at Rest Bay beach, I suggested that we stopped off for the odd one in lovely little Nottage village. We'd used the Farmers Arms at the end of July, when we sat under the shade of a horse chestnut, to enjoy a Wye Valley HPA and Cabernet Sauvignon by charming table service back then, and fancied doing the same, this glorious Indian summer's day.

Unfortunately the Farmer's was shut, but we stumbled upon the Rose and Crown on our way out and thought that we'd give it a try.

Two bemasked and slightly portly lads met us at the door, flushed with frustration as they left. "It's the same as all Brain's pubs - you need an app and the rest of the crap" they warned.

We could have missed a treat - the garden looked fine - but felt reliably enough cautioned to head for home.

So oi'll geev eet foive, which is what Brain's pubs usually get. I mean, fair's fair, y'know?

Sorry to be unable to help further today.

Pub/Hotel was having a refurb on my visit in Nov 2015. Room was fine, Brains Bitter £2.95 was good as was the food. Olde worlde type of place with 3 separate bar areas served by 1 bar and a restaurant.

This is your average soleless pub, the staff were very nice but there wasn't much atmosphere. They do have a very sunny spot so the beer garden is a must if it's nice weather. The beer is all Brains, I had a pint of Brain's new guest beer, 'Merlin' which was as decent as anything by Brains gets.
The food is verging on gastro style and therefore quite pricey. Not really the thing to be having on a pub crawl but good if you're taking someone out for a meal.

great old pub opposite village green.
decent range of beers.
3 cosy rooms with fire places plus a restaurant.
Tables out front, beer garden around the side.

Take a mini pub crawl around Nottage village, the Farmers Arms is across the other side of the green and The Swan is behind the Farmers.
