user reviews of First Out Cafe Bar, Soho

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I have a real soft spot for First Out. It`s a friendly, relaxed, atmosphere that is very woman-oriented. However, men are welcome. The one downside is that the food, whilst very nice, is a bit pricy; even for the West End.

Was here at the weekend, didn't eat but went downstairs for a couple of beers. It's improved since I was there last. Fairly chilled atmosphere and do like a good bottle of Budva.

Only fault would be the 1 toilet, but would definately recommend paying this one a visit.

Great place in the day, reasonably priced veggie food, relaxed atmosphere. Never been in the evening so can't comment.

A long-established gay/lesbian cafe-bar with a split personality. Upstairs in the cafe it's pleasant and friendly, with nice veggie food and a good atmosphere. A great place to meet friends in Central London before moving on elsewhere. The bar downstairs however is horrendous. Expensive drinks, wobbly furniture, overcrowded and ultra-harsh acoustics. The noise level makes my ears bleed.

Upstairs it's a bright, light, airy cafe, and although the food's veggie, it's actually pretty tasty. Friendly staff, original (if dodgy) artwork on the walls, and a friendly buzz about the place. So laid back, one of my favourite things is seeing some elderly gay man dodder in on his walking stick, pick up a copy of Boyz and dodder out again, completely unself-conscious. A place for all ages and persuasions; very attitude-free. Also a good place to pick up flyers.
Downstairs becomes a bar at night, still laid-back and very lesbian-heavy - though that's not policy, and you don't get evil looks for having a nob and facial hair. There's also a noticeboard for gay flatshares, which is handy.
