user reviews of the Wheatsheaf, Thatcham

please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

I stayed there one night recently - bad mistake. It is the grubbiest and most depressing place I have ever stayed. There was no en-suite, only a primitive bathroom next door. With my room being above the bar area some late evening noise was to be expected. What I did not expect was that people would arrive at the pub at 4.00 a.m. the following morning and be in the bar area creating a racket until 5.30 a.m.

The room charge was 40 and no breakfast was provided. Instead of that I was given a voucher to get breakfast at a nearby cafe, but i didn't bother. I was simply glad to get away from the area.

An utter disgrace of a pub.

I am putting this note into BITE to warn everyone not to go under any circumstances.

My boyfriend and I stayed here overnight as we were going to a friends Bday party in the area. It is by far the worst B&B I have ever stayed in and the pub downstairs was a bit suspect as well.

The pub downstairs was drab with curtains hanging off their hocks etc. They did not sell beer only larger and there was children's toys scattered all over the place.

This is bad enough but the rooms upstairs were horrendous.

Outside my room there was a pile of washing taller than me (and I am not short). There was no en suit and the shared bathroom's lock did not work. There was also a blood stain above the toilet which looked like a hand smear. Inside the room there was a can of Fosters under the bed and a corned beef packet in the draw. The ashtray had not been cleaned and the view was of the back yard which was also filled knee high with rubbish.

This cost 50, same price as a Premier Travel Inn. A Premier Travel Inn which although not the height of luxury is at least clean and with standard facilities.

I returned home glad to be still alive! You can not say you have not been warned!

Actually you'd be better off talking to two short planks....you'd get more sense out of them.
