After a trip to the King's Head in New Buckenham (not listed on this site), we headed to the Gamekeeper in Old Buckenham. We were expecting the pub to close at 5pm on a Sunday. But we were a touch surprised to find it already locked up at 4:30. They did see us trying to get in though and allowed us in for a drink, as we promised it would be a swift one. Landlord was the only real ale available. Whilst the interior of the building was quite impressive, with lots of wood, we weren't overly impressed. Apparently new owners have taken over recently. This is primarily a food pub. For drinkers it has little attraction. Worst pub of the day.

Choose this country pub from the CAMRA Beer Guide 2008 as it had a house brew produced by a local brewer. Sadly, the house brew (Wolf Brewery) was not on when I visited on 27/05/2008 but they did have Timothy Taylor - Landlord and Adnams - Broadside. The Broadside was in okay condition. Nice beer garden and eating area inside. Found the food menu to be very pricy and had many unusual dishes. Could have done with a few more traditional dishes to provide a good varied selection. Having said that the landlady was very welcoming and was able to accomodate our child with a variation from the menu at half-price.

Visited this one on Friday 6th. July, arrived at 9 to find the place very busy, mostly diners, asked if we were O.K. for food, no problem, last orders at 9:30, had a pint of the house brew from Wolf, Superb, my friend went for the Adnams and found it excellent, Wife had red wine and was offered a reasonable choice, We were alloted a table and menus arrived before we were settled, not rushed to make our selections but our order was taken within about 5 mins, our meals, all different, arrived within 15 mins, all hot, no delays, everything we needed with no drama or fuss, my Cesar Salad with Char-grilled Chicken was excellent.
In all a very pleasant experience, will certainly call again when this way.
They must have read the previous reviews and have risen to the challenge.

Unfortunately for me this pub has gone downhill under new ownership. Not realising it had changed hands My wife and I took two friends to eat there based on fantasctic previous experiences. From quality food reasonably priced with good service - it has degenereated considerably. We shall not be calling again.
