Having been a regular at the rose and crown for 4 years I am really disappointed in the changes it has undergone recently. It has been sold and a new owner taken over along with his miserable bar staff and dog wandering about the bar.
Visiting this weekend I was appalled by the state of the place- filthy! The bar was sticky, glasses everywhere, the loos looked like they have not been cleaned in weeks. There was no music on and the place had zero atmosphere- very unusual for a Friday night.
It also took me over 10 minutes to get served a flat pint. I was not the only one unimpressed, I know many regulars who won't be bothering with this place anymore. Especially since they have got rid of the amazing Thai food. I certainly don't fancy risking a dog hair in my burger from the new menu!!
Very sad, the previous owners were always friendly, It was a welcoming, clean place and I really enjoyed having a drink there. Time to find a new local I think.

Ive been a regular at this pub for about 6 years and the main draw was the sky sports, the Thai food and the good service....New owners in, and the Sky Sports and the Thai food are gone. The bar staff are awful....The bar is permanently sticky and covered in slops and newspaper print from newspapers getting stuck to the sticky bar....the bar staff clearly have no experience and the new food menu is over priced and offers nothing different from other better bars in the area (sandwiches and burgers)....left after one pint and went to the Lord Clyde instead.

There was a time when this was a pub really worth visiting. They used to do some excellent Thai food at very reasonable prices. The pub has changed hands, however, and the food is no longer available. I used to visit every Friday with some mates, for a meal and a few drinks - but not any more. There was always a choice of 1 bitter, maybe two at the outside. There are pubs in the area that sell a wider selection.

Not a bad little boozer with some decent Harvey's Sussex to sup, however you have to go into the pool room to watch the footy as the big screen in the other room is impossible to look at, almost white.

Other than a few people sitting at the tables outside there was no one in here when I arrived mid evening a fact that may be explained by the loud music being played inside. The pub is a spacious affair split into two sections by a doorway near the corner. The plethora of external doors may indicate that it was further split in times past.
I'm not a big fan of loud music in pubs so had my pint and left. I might come back here in a group but that would be about it particularly given some of the competition nearby.
