Avoid.

Used to be a good pub, sadly no longer. I had the misfortune to experience an utterly disastrous 30-a-head Boxing Day lunch at this shambles of an establishment.

Both times we ordered drinks it took 20 minutes, and prodding of staff, for any to arrive. Food was at best average, at worst undercooked and just plain bad. We rejected one dish, at least they removed it from the bill.

Despite being forced to choose which dishes we wanted 3 weeks before the meal, they had run out of one of our puddings. How does that work?

Waited at least at least half an hour between each course for food to turn up. This sorry tale went on for over 3 hours. Not even a hint of apology for the pathetically lethargic service.

To top it all off, they then tried the novel approach of serving tea in a sugar container, clearly deeming a cup far too normal. And didn't bring enough coffees. Nor enough milk. Nor any sugar. Never, ever, EVER again.

Very happy place with brilliant food. Always full of good memories and always a pleasure to go again.

Generally a very good pub. Very traditional interior - ie hops hanging from fake wooden timbers, displays with wine bottle corks and all that shit. Food is also good, although the menu seems to be getting smaller every time I go in. Expect delays and no seats on hot summer days.

I posted this pub some while ago and it has been a place I have greatly enjoyed. UNFORTUNATELY I would not currently advise anyone to visit it. It has recently been placed under new management. I have heard numbers of people commenting on the extraordinarily aggressive style of the management there now and trade seems to be falling off. I also been on the receiving end f it myself. Chef & Brewer tell me they have taken steps to correct thing. Really? Anyway if anyone finds out the management have changed (which they will be!) please let me know.

Chef & Brewer house but always has good guest beers with Courage Director's and best always available.

Very much a food pub and the food is excellent at realistic prices with plenty of variety. Still retains a pub feel though.
