Character pub with oak beams etc. never tried the restaurant , drinks are pricey compared to other locals . .

Been visiting the Angel for food for a number of years now and have never, ever had a bad experience. It's always good value, service is swift and generally smiley and the beer is well kept too. Nothing to complain about.

Visited recently with a colleague for a planning meeting - we do this three or four times a year to enjoy food and wine whilst working. Our wine (one red and one white) was good, but the levels seemed smaller than usual. We had the small portion choice of Venison Sausage and Mash and Ham and Eggs with Chips and Salad. Apart from the chips being a bit al dente, the food was of its usual standard. The Sticky Toffee Pudding was good and plentiful. We did notice that the menu had changed - where is the lovely Penne with fresh Green Peas and Asparagus? The staff were helpful and friendly as usual and we shall be back in the summer for another session.

After reading the negative reviews we were rather reluctant to return to the place where we have had such outstanding meals prior to the huge refurbishment.

Well, we needn't have worried - it was fabulous! Despite what others have said the 'olde worlde' charm has not been removed with the builders hammer. The lovely fires are still burning, the old pictures on the red brick walls are as they were - and the comfortable chairs are in place.

Tonight (Tuesday) was packed as it was a firms night out but the service was swift and extremely friendly. The staff have time to chat, even when it's hectic. Lovely Christmas decorations, just the right amount, with crackers on each table - a nice touch.

We had the Scampi Supper, followed by Real Toffee Pudding, accompanied by two large glasses of white wine. This meal can be had just about anywhere and varies from good to downright disgusting, but The Angel takes it to a new level of taste and presentation. Superb!
