The Woodie has been closed for some months now, and deservedly so. But, as thebrownbottle said, a pub that had once been an excellent boozer and, for me, de rigeur for New Year's Eve. Had long since stopped drinking there but some months before it closed I needed to use their loo. Feeling obliged to buy something, I pointed to the hand pump and asked for a half. 'Sorry, mate, it's off.' As always when faced with no real ale, go for a Guinness. 'Sorry, mate, that's off 'n all.' Ended up with half of John Smiths keg, which was undrinkable and the bulk of it left in the glass.

As I said, pubs like this deserve to die.

Awful, avoid like the plague.
Landlord is weird as are the strange people who drink in there.
No atmosphere, bad layout and frequented by South London 'Del Boy' types.

Hoorah, hoorah, it's closed and reopened under what appears to be a strong-minded Irish landlord returning it to it's roots. The last landlord was shut down after not paying his Sky TV bills, not such a problem if he'd bothered paying for his electricity. Anyway, the new owners have lavished much-needed money in rescuing the pub from ruin, have reinstated traditional Irish music nights, have banished under-25s which were the main problem, and have got all the footie and Gaelic sports back in on a reasonably low-key basis. Oh, and one real ale, London Pride, but that's more than they've had for a decade or more. I'll give it time before giving a genuine rating.

Id not visited this pub before my fleeting visit last week, but I did get the feeling that it had seen better times. There are two unused hand pumps meaning that only a standard draught selection is available and the Sky Sports future events board was being used to advertise the premade rolls that are available from one of the drinks fridges behind the bar I did have a couple of ham salad rolls though and they went down a treat. The projector screen above a small piano at the rear of the pub looked like it hadnt been used in some time, but there is a plasma screen in the front bar which was showing Sky Sports News. There is also a pool table and a dartboard which is good to see although Im not a fan of test your strength boxing machines in pubs. The background music was a bit loud for my liking and the constant change of genre was giving me a headache.

The barmaid was nice enough, but I dont think that Ill be returning here in a hurry.

Sad to say, this is another pub in the Lee area that looks like it might bite the dust. Having been run as a proper Irish pub by the same governor for 31 years, it's had a few good spells since, but now seems fallen on hard times. The big attraction up until recently was the big screen sports, but rumour has it that Sky pulled the plug when bills weren't paid it. Little else to recommend it anymore unless you want to play the local bookie at pool.
