This is the second time recently that I’ve gone into a pub after a walk in the peak District and, once it’s known that we’re only ordering drinks and not food, been met with a fairly cool welcome. On this occasion, the staff could not really have been clearer. It’s a shame because it’s a nice pub with a choice of local beers. You might argue that it’s inevitable in honeypot villages like this, but it hardly encourages you to return and so is short-sighted. What’s more we waited so long for the teas that were ordered that we ended up asking for our money back. CWchipsupper - 9 Jul 2012 20:38

Visited this excellent village local on two occasions while on holiday in the area. 4 handpumps all local brews on both visits. Food was good and reasonably priced. henrythenavigator - 19 Sep 2011 12:42

Top, top village pub that we visited whilst doing a short walk around Ravensbrook and Water-cum-jolly. We both loved it. Mixture of walkers, locals and older tourists, bar staff couldn't have been more friendly and helpful to us and everyone else. Unsurprisingly they are big on food. We stuffed ourselves with delicious, inexpensive locally-sourced mains and desserts (even the little plates are big!) But beer certainly doesn't take second place. 4 local ales on tap - Buxton Kinder Sunset, Abbeydale Absolution, Blue Monkey PG Sips and Barnsley Bitter from Oakwell. Had the first two, both faultless. Highly recommended. polonius948 - 9 Jul 2011 18:17
