Completely disagree with previous post ... extremely welcoming staff and atmosphere. Great location and tasty food.

If you want to award 10/10 for miserable bar staff, this is the place. A sunny, not-too-busy lunchtime in July, no customers at the bar, yet one of the most hostile and unpleasant receptions my wife and I have ever experienced. Not replying to "Hello" is one thing. Grunting and complaining about having to work there, while pouring short-measure pints is another. Beer is expensive - very expensive for Exeter. Food equally so - they're arrogant enough to leave any pence off the blackboard: it's all in rounded-off pounds. The interior is pretty charmless, but nothing like as bad as the guy pulling pints (or, rather, poor impressions of them). Avoid. Stay in the centre.

Heavitree pub offering Exmoor Gold, Otter, Dartmoor's Jail Ale and St Austell's Tribute. Nice place to sit outside yesterday in the sun.

Nice location on Exeter's overated quay.
Beer expensive and food was average.
7/10 just because you can people watch while sitting outside.

We had a really good lunch here. I agree about the pie - it was excellent and well supported by the two pints of Tribute! The staff were friendly and the service good. Very quiet even for a rainy Friday but my impression is that the place comes to life in the evenings when there is live entertainment. Spot on!!
