The Monument is a fairly basic town centre boozer just to the north of the town centre. It's a fairly small space, with a few different drinking areas, including a games room with pool table and dartboard. Judging by the number of trophies, they must be well used. Bombardier Burning Gold & Hobgoblin were the ales. The Hobgoblin wasn't the best.

What a shit hole. If crap cloudy off beer served by a toothless wanker who thinks it's acceptable then this is the place for you !!! Unbelievable

Decent enough pub, unusual for a bland high street so commonplace in England now.
Worth a visit.

I sometimes come here to watch bands perform at weekends (The Straw Dogs are particularly good!). It's a good crowd, but the place is a bit second rate. The beer is always slightly disappointing and over-priced, but this seems to be a common issue in Newbury town centre.

this pub used to be a great little dive, now its just a dive. entertainment is poor at best with a crony system of bookings for mates bands. some of who really should'nt perform. and as for their so called open mike night.... well they should call it the matt sutton and friends night as the only ones the mike is open to are he and his. the beer not well looked after in my humble opinion and the company can be,,, lets just say not what you might want to find. my advice save your money or go somewhere else.
